About the Journal

Mizan: Journal of Islamic Law (p-ISSN: 2598-974X, e-ISSN: 2598-6996) is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the publication of high-quality, original research in the field of Islamic legal studies. The journal is published twice a year by the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Ibn Khaldun (UIKA) Bogor, Indonesia, in strategic partnership with APSI (Association of Islamic Indonesian Lawyers / Asosiasi Pengacara Syariah Indonesia).

Mizan aims to provide a prominent platform for scholars, researchers, legal practitioners, and policymakers worldwide to share contemporary insights, empirical studies, and critical analyses of Islamic law and its development in the modern world. The languages used in this journal are Indonesian and English.

Focus and Scope

Mizan: Journal of Islamic Law encompasses original research articles, conceptual review articles, and legal case studies. The journal specifically welcomes submissions within the following scopes:

  • Islamic Family Law: Contemporary issues in Islamic family law, marriage dynamics, child protection, inheritance, and comparative family law.

  • Syari’ah and Economic Law: Islamic banking and finance law, halal industry regulations, Islamic philanthropy (Zakat, Wakaf, Infaq), and Islamic business contracts (Muamalah).

  • Islamic Legal Studies: Islamic jurisprudence (Ushul Fiqh), history of Islamic law, fatwa studies, Siyasah Shar'iyyah (Islamic constitutional law), and the interaction between Islamic law and national/international legal frameworks.

Peer Review Process

Every manuscript submitted to Mizan: Journal of Islamic Law undergoes a rigorous screening and evaluation process:

  1. Initial Editorial Review: The Editors evaluate the manuscript regarding its alignment with the journal's focus, scope, and basic formatting guidelines.

  2. Double-Blind Peer Review: Eligible manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 (two) external reviewers who are experts in the respective field. The identity of both the authors and reviewers remains completely anonymous throughout the process to ensure maximum objectivity.

  3. Final Decision: The final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of the manuscript rests with the Editorial Board, based on the reviewers' recommendations.

Open Access Policy

This is an Open Access journal, meaning that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal for lawful purposes.

Journal History

Mizan, Journal of Islamic Law published two times a year since 2011, is a multilingual (Indonesian language dan English), peer-reviewed journal, and specializes in Islamic Law.
