Manuscript Types
Hearty : Jurnal Kesehatan Masyarakat accepts scholarly manuscripts that align with the journal’s focus and scope. Manuscripts must make a clear contribution to the advancement of knowledge, be systematically structured, and comply with publication ethics requirements. The types of manuscripts accepted include:
- Original Research Article
Articles presenting original research findings using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches. Manuscripts must clearly describe the research problem, objectives, methods that can be critically evaluated, findings, and research contributions.
The main structure should include the introduction, methods, results and discussion, and conclusion. Studies involving system or prototype development must include an evaluation that supports claims regarding their performance and benefits.
- Review Article
Articles that synthesize and critically evaluate the literature on a specific topic. Manuscripts must demonstrate the development of knowledge, identify research gaps, and outline directions for future research.
For narrative reviews, authors must explain the objectives, scope, and approach used to select the literature. Manuscripts must go beyond merely summarizing sources and provide critical analysis.
- Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Articles that review scientific evidence using systematic, transparent, and reproducible procedures. Manuscripts must describe the research questions, information sources, search strategies, eligibility criteria, selection process, appropriate quality or risk-of-bias assessments, and synthesis methods.
Meta-analyses must describe the statistical methods used to combine results and the approaches employed to address heterogeneity. Systematic reviews are not required to include a meta-analysis when statistical pooling is inappropriate for the characteristics of the data.
- Short Communication
Short articles presenting research findings with a limited scope but a clear scientific contribution. Manuscripts must still include sufficient information on the objectives, methods, results, discussion, and conclusions to allow the validity of the findings to be assessed.
The concise format of a manuscript does not diminish the requirements for evidence quality or research ethics.
- Case Study
Articles that provide an in-depth examination of a particular case, organization, community, event, or technology implementation within a specific context. Manuscripts must explain the rationale for selecting the case, the context, data sources, analytical methods, findings, and implications.
Authors must discuss the limitations of applying the findings to other contexts and maintain the confidentiality of identities where necessary.
- Methodological or Technical Article
Articles presenting new methods, algorithms, instruments, analytical frameworks, or technical approaches, as well as significant improvements to existing approaches.
Manuscripts must explain the rationale for the development, implementation procedures, validation, and the advantages and limitations of the proposed approach. Comparisons with relevant existing approaches should be included to support the claimed contributions.
- Conceptual Article
Articles that develop concepts, models, propositions, or theoretical frameworks through scientific argumentation and critical literature analysis.
Manuscripts must present a theoretical foundation, a logical line of argumentation, relationships between concepts, and contributions to knowledge. Conceptual articles must not present untested ideas as empirical findings.
- Letter to the Editor
Short manuscripts that provide scholarly responses to previously published articles or discuss academic issues relevant to the journal’s scope. Responses must be objective, supported by sound reasoning or evidence, and free from personal attacks.
If a letter addresses a specific article, the editor may give the authors of that article an opportunity to respond.
