Abstract

This study analyzes Artificial Intelligence (AI) implementation, its challenges and opportunities, and the principal's strategies for sustaining an Islamic elementary school. A qualitative case study was conducted at MIS Babantar, Ciamis Regency. Data were obtained through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with 13 informants: the principal, teachers, parents, and community leaders. Analysis involved data condensation, display, and conclusion drawing; triangulation and member checking enhanced trustworthiness. The findings show that teachers mediated ChatGPT, Gemini, and Canva AI across planning, instruction, and assessment, accompanied by Wordwall as a digital assessment tool. Integration remained gradual because of uneven teacher competence, limited devices and connectivity, absent guidelines, and risks of dependence and inaccurate information. The principal responded by strengthening instructional quality, developing competence, adopting AI gradually, reinforcing religious and character programs, engaging the community, improving infrastructure, and preserving Islamic identity. Madrasah sustainability is strengthened by selective, teacher-centered technological adaptation anchored in religious values and community trust.
