Abstract

Traditional  Arabic  language  curricula  often  suffer  from  a  disconnect  between  theoretical  grammar  and  practical  communication,  leading  to  low  proficiency  among  learners.  This  study  aims  to  redesign  the  Arabic  curriculum  based  on  applied  linguistics,  specifically  addressing  the  gap  in  the  context  of  Pesantren  Darul  Ikhlash,  Mandailing  Natal.  Methods:  Using  a  library  research  method,  this  study  synthesizes  contemporary  literature  from  2021–2025  to  formulate  an  adaptive  curriculum  model.  Results:  The  findings  indicate  that  a  redesign  incorporating  Mobile-Assisted  Language  Learning  (MALL),  authentic  materials,  and  Task-Based  Language  Teaching  (TBLT)  significantly  enhances  communicative  competence.  The  integration  of  a  translanguaging  approach  further  reduces  learners'  affective  filters  by  bridging  their  local  linguistic  background  with  the  target  language.  Conclusion:  Shifting  the  paradigm  from  learning  about  the  language  to using  the  language  aligns  Arabic  instruction  with  global  proficiency  standards,  such  as  the  CEFR.  This  redesign  offers  a  strategic  framework  for  improving  Arabic  acquisition  in  a  modern,  dynamic  educational  context.
