Abstract

The global energy crisis and climate change have intensified the demand for innovative Islamic finance mechanisms that align with sustainable development principles. Rural areas often face limited access to renewable energy and economic empowerment, necessitating inclusive, faith-based solutions. This study aims to develop a conceptual model of Green Waqf that integrates cash and asset-based waqf with biomass energy development, Islamic philanthropic values, and rural community empowerment. This research employs a Research & Development Model Approach, synthesizing Islamic financial principles, CSR mechanisms, and environmental sustainability practices. The model is constructed through theoretical analysis of cash waqf, CSR-based contributions, and renewable energy implementation, particularly focusing on high-calorific biomass trees such as Calliandra calothyrsus. The proposed Green Waqf model serves as a strategic instrument for empowering rural communities in managing alternative energy resources. It creates affordable, clean energy for local MSMEs, while generating sustainable income to support social welfare initiatives, including free lunch programs for schoolchildren. The model aligns with core Islamic values and contributes to multiple SDGs and Indonesia's Net Zero Emissions 2060 target. As a conceptual framework, this study lacks empirical validation or field implementation data.  This research introduces an innovative integration of Islamic social finance, CSR, and renewable energy for inclusive rural development. It is among the first to propose a Green Waqf framework that simultaneously addresses environmental sustainability, economic empowerment, and social welfare, especially through support for free school meal programs.
