Internalizing Ukhuwah and Muwatanah through the Seumapa Cultural Tradition A Framework for Strengthening Social and National Resilience in Digital Era

Abstract

The Seumapa oral tradition of Aceh serves as a cultural medium for transmitting social and national values. In the digital era, however, its sustainability is increasingly threatened by declining youth participation. This study examines how the values of Ukhuwah and Muwatanah are internalized through the Seumapa cultural practice, analyzes its contribution to social and national resilience, and proposes revitalization strategies responsive to digital transformation. Using a qualitative case study in Bireuen Regency, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The findings demonstrate that Seumapa effectively fosters brotherhood, social solidarity, and civic consciousness, contributing to social cohesion and culturally grounded conflict resolution. Nonetheless, its role is constrained by generational discontinuity and limited institutional support. This study argues that Seumapa offers a culturally embedded model of value internalization with strong potential to reinforce social and national resilience when supported by community revitalization and value-oriented digital adaptation.
